Hello October!

So happy I can finally turn off the AC lol

What a great month! and so much fun to be had this month ;)

here is what I have been up to ;)

We have been hitting the local farmers market and now the pumpkins are starting to appear. yay!

Halloween is filling the stores, I have my Halloween decorations all up inside the house, but not the porch yet. I'll post pics when I get it all together, hope by the end of next week.

I went to Halloween and Vine this year for the first time!

I plan to show there next year. I feel like the mayor of Halloweentown only 364 days until next Halloween! I have to plan early or it sneaks up on me... eek! It has been presented to me a few times over the last few years; I have had intentions to show there, but life has gotten in the way, and like I said Halloween has snuck up on me. 

But I am beyond excited to do this show! 

We are hitting Disneyland this month too, so excited going to the Mickey Halloween party and I have to get my costume together ;) 

I have some art dolls being shown at the Jaffa Museums Doll Art show, exciting!!

I have some art dolls and some larger paintings at a local gallery my friend recently opened ;)

and I have been working on custom art dolls and art dolls for my Etsy shop! like non stop 

which is always exciting!!

Turn on The AC!

Hello my dear Blog ;)

It is so hot here, daily it ranges from 80-110. After a few days of 110, 80 doesn't feel like much of a relief.

Crank up the AC and close all the curtains...only go out at night. Play spooky music or watch creepy movies. I am starting to believe it could be close to autumn, well trying to convince myself.

Downstairs I can create a cool oasis, upstairs is another matter. Heat rises and windows that have no covering let in the dreaded sunshine... oh misery... I don't think I will sleep upstairs until September. 

Sculpting has become either an early morning or evening activity as well. Warm polymer quickly becomes sticky polymer in the heat. Sculpting what started out as tiny hands soon become long elongated octopus tentacles. Little noses flatten on the faces and perky eye sockets start to look like droopy dopey ghosts. Not that ghosts are bad at all...maybe I should go with it? lol

ahh it isn't all that bad, a little bit of exaggeration going on ;) but I need to embellish to get the point across...it is hot here.

Along with the illusion that it is Autumn in my studio, I feel the urge to get some spooky girls done.

And as usual I take a look at those who have come before :D

Coffins a tiny resting place for art dolls.

Hello! How is everyone? 

There are only 169 days till Halloween! haha. How about some coffin girls to celebrate? 

I have been using these coffins for a long time now as a comfy resting place for the creepier girls ;)

What I really love about them is that I get to paint them and use some extravagant vintage trims, millinery flowers of all sorts and fringes ;)

what better excuse to get to the thrift shops and yard sales for some!

each girl is tucked in with crazy colors and patterns, stripes are always welcome!

super vibrant silks with crosses and skulls ;)

can't forget the pumpkins and skeletons!

aqua green is a favorite color of mine...someday I plan to paint a few rooms in my house with it :D

Some prefer to lay in the coffin all day, some like to lounge outside it.

coffins are a whole lot of fun!

Poor Neglected Blog

Poor Neglected Blog I have tried to get interested 

and learn new things about you. 

I am sorry but I just cannot get into the groove. 

What can I do to spark the love between us? 

We have shared some coffee together and blog hopped.

We have spent days reading posts and commenting,

Tutorials on layout and graphics, it is a never ending 

series of edits and pixel adjustments.

Off center graphics and gadgets that make my eyes twinge, 

I cannot handle the awkwardness between us.

The thought of hiring professional help to mend our 

relationship has crossed my mind

and quickly went away as I was distracted by Facebook. 

I felt bad and decided today to give us one more try...
instead 

It just took me 10 minutes make your Gifs transparent 

and you still want more from me

Where is your moz and the webkit to make the shadows go away....

 ah well I am off to make dolls ;)

Alternative to sanding Creative PaperClay®

Hello it is LuLu and welcome to my Creative PaperClay® Link Party Project!

I have been creating these cones for a few years now and have them in colors to match every season. They are super easy to make light weight and will add height to any area in your home that needs a little bit :)

So here we go!

You will need the following:

 one paper mache cone

a package of Delight ™ Air dry Modeling Compound 

scissors

acrylic paint

gesso

1 paint brush

ribbon and lace

a clay roller

STEP 1

The first step is to apply Gesso to Your paper mache Cone.

STEP 2

Start with a piece of Delight ™ air dry Modeling compound

Roll to approx. 1/16" thickness

Using your scissors cut random heart shapes

 Keep repeating the roll out and cut out steps until you have about 12 hearts in varying sizes.

I stop at this point as to not have them dry out.

Take a piece of lace and lay over your hearts

Start rolling with light pressure to get an impression in your hearts. You will have to go over the hearts several times to get all areas of the heart imprinted with the lace pattern.

STEP 3

next take watered down gesso and apply to the back of the heart

STEP 4

You will now start piecing like a puzzle the hearts onto your cone. If you run out of hearts just goo back and repeat Steps 2-3. 

a 14" cone took an entire package of Clay ;)

STEP 5

once you have covered your cone start to paint.

There is no need to wait for the Clay to dry.

a watered down wash of Acrylic paint is best and a light touch 

leaving the in between areas unpainted continue to paint the hearts all the way around the cone.

STEP 6

Once you are finished painting allow your project to dry

You can embellish the bottom with ribbons, flowers or trinkets :D
